Guidance on putting your Bins out
Use this page for advice on how to help avoid missed collections by presenting your bins correctly.
On the day your bins are collected, they should:
- be at the edge of your property by 6am
- have their lids fully closed
You can check your next bin day online.
We don't collect dangerous items like gas canisters, batteries or disposable vapes.
Visit Kent County Council's website to find out where gas canisters, batteries, and disposable vapes should go.
Recycling (blue bin) waste
Don't put food, nappies, textiles, black bin sacks, or electricals in your recycling. Instead, you should:
- put food in your food waste (black and orange) bin
- put nappies in your refuse (green) bin
- take textiles and electrical items to a household waste recycling centre
If you have too much recycling and it won't fit in your blue bin you can put it in additional clear sacks or a separate cardboard box next to your bin but loose recycling is preferred.
Recycling should be clean and dry before you put it in your recycling bin, clear sacks, or a cardboard box.
Food (black and orange bin) waste
You should:
- put your food waste beside your refuse or recycling bin each week, on collection day
- don't put packaging or liquids in your food waste bin
Refuse (green bin) waste
You should only put waste that can't be recycled in your refuse bin.
