Apply for a Taxi or Private Hire Licence
Use this service if you’ve already successfully applied for a dual drivers or private hire licence.
Before you apply for a taxi or private hire licence for your vehicle, it will need to be inspected by an approved garage. You can download a list of approved garages (PDF 158KB).
Applying
To apply for a taxi or private hire licence, you’ll need to:
- download, complete and return a form (PDF 337KB)
- pay a fee
- send us the vehicle’s V5 log book, most recent MOT certificate and evidence that you have suitable ‘hire and reward’ insurance
Once you’ve completed your application form, you’ll need to email it our Taxi Licensing team at taxis@swale.gov.uk, together with your proof of ownership, MOT certificate and insurance details.
Fees and payment
You’ll need to pay:
- £340 the first time we issue your taxi or private hire vehicle with a licence
- £290 when you renew your vehicle's licence
You can pay for your licence online. You’ll need:
- your dual drivers or private hire licence number
- an email address
- a debit or credit card
What happens next
Once we’ve received your application, payment and evidence, we’ll process your application. If it’s successful, we’ll send you your licence.
