Salting Roads in Winter

Roads can freeze even though it isn't feeling very cold outside. Road surfaces in winter can be 4┬░C colder than the air temperature. Hence, in winter extra care is needed when driving.

Kent County Council cannot afford to treat every single road in Kent, and their main aim is keeping the major routes treated and passable. These are generally restricted to 'A' roads, some 'B' roads and other roads of local importance. Each salting route is carefully planned so that they are completed within targets specified.

Find out more information about road salting on the Kent County Council website - Road salting.
