Registered parks and gardens

in Swale

English Heritage compiles and maintains a Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.  The register identifies designed, ornamental landscapes which are of ‘special historic interest’ in the national context.

Registered sites are not open to the public unless advertised elsewhere as being so.

The Parks and Gardens are graded in a similar fashion to listed buildings, though not as a statutory list.  Inclusion in the Register recognises that the site is of national importance. They comprise a variety of features including open space, flora, water features, archaeological remains and buildings.

The Council seeks to protect registered historic parks and gardens; development that would adversely affect the landscape character, layout and features will not be permitted.
