Improve safety
In the bathroom
- run cold water before hot when bathing
- don't have hairdryers in the bathroom - water and electricity don't mix!
In the kitchen
- use back burners on cookers and turn pan handles towards the rear
- keep sharp knives out of children's reach
- keep flexes short and out of children's reach.
In the hall and on the stairs
- keep the floor and stairway clear
- fit stair gates for young children
- fit a smoke detector in the hallway.
In the bedroom
- never smoke in bed
- fit window safety catches or locks to upstairs windows to prevent children falling out.
In the living Room
- use a fixed fire guard
- have enough electrical points don't overload or trail flexes across the floor.
In the garden and DIY
- wear strong footwear and long trousers when working outside
- Keep sheds locked.
- Always use a circuit breaker on electrical equipment.
