Notice of vacancy

Notice is hereby given under Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that a casual vacancy exists in the office of Borough Councillor for the Sheppey East ward of the Borough of Swale, following the resignation of Councillor Lesley Ingham.

A by-election can be requested by two local government electors within the local authority area, giving notice to the Proper Officer.

Once such a request has been received the polling day for the by-election must be held between 25 and 35 working days of the request being received, as decided by the Returning Officer.

The Election of a Town Councillor for the Abbey Ward seat on Faversham Town Council took place on Thursday, 19 January 2017.

EU Referendum

The referendum on whether the UK should stay in or leave the European Union took place on 23 June 2016.

There were 75,913 votes cast in Swale for the referendum from a total of 102,209 eligible electors, which represents a 74.27% turnout.
