Avoid fines with free microchipping

Dog owners can make sure they’re staying on the right side of the law by getting their precious pet microchipped for free next month.

We are offering a free microchipping amnesty event at Art in the Park in Milton Creek Country Park on Saturday 11 August.

It is an offence to have a dog over the age of eight weeks old that has not been microchipped or whose details are not up to date. If dogs aren’t microchipped, owners can face a fine of up to £500. If you live in Swale, this is your chance to get your dog chipped free of charge.

Microchipping means dog owners have the peace of mind that should their dog be lost or stolen, they can be returned to the right person quickly. Other benefits for owners include:

Cllr David Simmons, cabinet member for environmental and rural affairs at the council, said:

"Losing a dog can be heart-breaking, but microchipping makes it more likely you will be reunited with your pet.

"Microchipping also makes sure owners take full responsibility for their pets, as they know they can’t just get a dog and abandon it if it’s harder to look after than they first thought."
