How to use the site

Navigating this site can be done in two different ways:

Use the search box
Use the theme-based menu navigation

Searching the website

We have spent a lot of time working on the searching on the website. Our last search engine was, frankly, poor and we didn't want the new one to be as well, which is why we have adopted the Kent-wide search facility, provided by our friends at Kent Connects. To search, simply enter the search term you are looking for, such as "planning permission" or "dumped car", then click SEARCH. There will be a short delay while the search takes place and then the results will be displayed in four sections:

Swale Results. This is where our main site's page results can be found.
Democratic Services Results. This is where matching Councillor and Agenda / Minutes information can be found.
Kent wide Search Results. We have provided a search of all our surrounding Council websites, as well as Kent Fire and Rescue, Kent Police, Kent Ambulance and Kent County Council.
FAQs. This is the most relevant frequenty asked question asked of our Customer Services team.

Using the menu navigation

We have tried to put all our pages in some logical sections. Previously the menu structure was set by department, but we were told by many people that this did not work, so we changed it. The new sections are:

Working and Business - This is where you would find information like Job Vacancies at Swale (Working) or information on Business Rates (Business)
Governing and Administering - This is where you would find information like Councillors and Elections (Governing) or our policies and procedures (Administering)
Performing and Improving - This is where you would find information about our performance with regards to the national targets set by the Government and also the information on how we are going to be improving Swale (both as a borough and an organisation)
Living and Visiting - This is where you would find information like Refuse and Recycling (Living) and Tourism (Visiting)
About Us and Latest News - This is where you will find general information (such as how to contact us and our opening hours) and all our Press Releases

What's Next

We are still moving content across from the old site, so please bear with us. Also, you may find the odd link that still points to the old site. We can only apologise for this and please be assured we are working hard to remove these, but it is quite a manual task.

Once the content has been all moved across then we will be beginning the next round of development, which will allow you to customise what you see on your homepage and also enhance the search to be even more useful that it already is!
