Slides and Roundabouts
The King Georges play area has a new addition. On Thursday 29 July 2010 at 2pm, there will be an opening event of brand new play equipment that is soon to be installed.
The equipment will include a wide slide climbing frame, a 3 way kaleidoscope and a roundabout which suits all abilities. The play area will also have a disabled access path and gate, so that the area is easily accessible. The new equipment will mean that children of all abilities will be able to enjoy the play area.
The play equipment has been funded jointly between Kent County Council and Swale community capital projects fund. The play area cost around £30,000 in total to complete.
When Cllr Willicombe was Mayor of Swale, he noticed that there was a distinct lack of play equipment in Swale that enabled children with disabilities to use and interact with able bodied children. King Georges, due to its central location and being locked of a night, seemed to be an ideal sighting for a purpose built play area.
Councillor Alan Willicombe, who will be opening the new equipment in the play area, said “King Georges Park has always been a popular park, and now with these new additions, it should be even more so. It is great to be able to provide this new equipment so that even more children will be able to use and enjoy the play area. We hope that the new equipment will be well used.”
