Sittingbourne Town Centre

The Council has launched a competition that will lead to the selection of a development partner for the regeneration of Sittingbourne town centre.

This month will see the formal adoption of the Sittingbourne and Milton Creek Masterplan which sets out the planning framework for the regeneration of the town centre. Over the last decade, a number of proposals have been put forward.  The Council is running the competitive process to select a development partner to work with them to deliver the much needed regeneration project.

To take part in the competition, developers will not only have to prepare outline proposals for the regeneration project, but also demonstrate a track record of successful development schemes elsewhere and demonstrate that the project is commercially viable. This will give the Council the confidence to make sure that the chosen developer can deliver the project.

Once selected, the developer and the Council will enter into an agreement to take forward the regeneration of the town centre.

Andrew Bowles, Leader of Swale Borough Council, said ‘This is a very clear and positive step forward by the Council. By the end of the year, we will have a developer in place to help us realise our aspirations for the town centre. This is real progress, and will bring to an end the past years of uncertainty”

Developers are to submit their initial proposals by the 9th September. Over the autumn, the Council will work with the best proposals before selecting the chosen developer towards the end of the year.
