Olympic Stakeholders Discussion

Wednesday 11 January 2012

Olympics to be discussed by Stakeholders

The Olympic Torch Relay comes to Faversham on 19 July 2012 and it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for local organisations to get involved.

Swale Borough Council has been tasked to coordinate the Faversham Olympic Torch Event with its local partners and service providers and is grateful to the Abbey School in Faversham, which has agreed to host a local ‘Stakeholder’ meeting on 25 January at 4pm.

The Council wants to encourage any group or organisation in Swale who wishes to take part in the event and has called this meeting to provide an update on the information we can share at this stage and find out who wants to be involved.

Our aim is to engage with local community groups and organisations to deliver the torch relay and promote activities they may wish to arrange to supplement the torch visit on 19 July.

Councillor Andrew Bowles, Swale Borough Council’s Leader, said “It is magnificent that the Olympic Torch is going to pass through Faversham and want to make sure that as many people who want to be involved can be part of the celebrations. The purpose of this meeting will be to gauge interest and to discuss the many ideas that I am sure will be put forward.”

The types of groups we anticipate wanting to get involved are local Rotarians, housing associations, sports clubs, community and residents groups. We suspect that some groups will want to help the Council in delivering a successful event and that other groups will want to organise events that complement the Torch Relay day in Swale.

If your organisation is interested, we would be very grateful if you could let Martin Goodhew know the name and contact details of the representative you will be sending by 20 January. You can contact Martin by email martingoodhew@swale.gov.uk or on 01795 417399.
