Showing Love for Leysdown

People are being asked to show their love for Leysdown in the form of workshops taking place in the Kent Cultural Baton.

The Kent Cultural Baton will be an original piece of art that will travel around the county visiting festivals, organisations, individuals, schools and businesses who will represent 21 different representations of ‘culture’ and ‘creativity’.

The representations can include anything from the worlds of art, science, food, gardens, heritage and historic, carnival and street theatre, music and the environment.

The Cultural Baton will be coming to the Leysdown Carnival and it will be filled with artwork, which displays love and affection to the natural beauty in Leysdown.

The workshops that have been happening already in Leysdown include a number of watercolour workshops around different natural areas including the beach and Priory Hill Park.

The new workshop will include learning how to make paper roses and then write letters of love to Leysdown. These will then become part of the displays inside the baton, which will go alongside the watercolour paintings that were produced.

The workshop is free and open to all ages. The workshop will be lead by artist Nicole Mollett, and will take place:

Saturday 31 July

10am-5pm

The Spinney Leysdown-on-sea

Councillor Bryan Mulhern, portfolio holder for culture, said “It’s great that Leysdown have been able to become part of the Cultural Baton. The artwork that will be displayed in it will show the true natural beauty of Leysdown.

“The Baton will also show what the community really thinks of the area through these workshops. I know that all the work that everyone has done will look great and really show off what Leysdown has to offer, when the Baton goes to other areas around Kent.”
