The Local Plan, or development plan, comprises one or more documents prepared in accordance with legal requirements, independently examined and adopted by the Council. It is also used by the Council to help determine planning applications. The Plan is required to be kept up-to-date, so a review is in progress.
Our Local Plan was adopted in February 2008.
A Proposals Map accompanies the Local Plan. Note that these have been produced to be viewed at a scale of 1:2500.
The Local Plan was submitted for Examination in Public in April 2015, along with a substantial evidence base and supporting documents.
The first phase of the Examination in Public was held in December 2015, and the Inspector’s Interim Findings were published during February - March 2016.
Main Modifications to the Plan were published and consulted on during summer 2016.
The Examination in Public resumed on 31 January 2017 and closed on 8 February 2017.
The 2014 draft Local Plan identified land to the east of Station Road, Teynham as a future housing allocation. The Local Plan is currently being examined by an Independent Inspector.
However, during the second stage of the examination this January, the developer informed the Inspector that the proposed site access needed to be amended. The Inspector then directed the Council to undertake a further public consultation on these new access arrangements.
This consultation is for comments on the new access road arrangements only and not on the principle of the development itself. All comments will be sent to the Inspector who has been dealing with the Swale Borough Local Plan Examination.
