Regenerating Swale
Litter Picking Along Country Roads
Narrow country lanes can be a magnate for litter build up, but Swale Borough Council in partnership with its street cleaning contractor Verdant has taken a pro-active approach to the clearance of litter along the country roads of Swale.
It has been hard in the past to carry out litter picking on country roads, as they are often narrow with cars moving at high speeds. There is now a new trailer that is being used which now enables the litter to be cleared.
This new trailer means that a safe working environment is being provided so that the litter can be cleared effectively and safely.
The trailer has been purchased by Verdant as a result of health and safety issues for crew members when litter picking along country lanes with no footway, as there was clearly a need for some form of traffic management.
The new trailer means that Swale Borough Council will be able to provide a quicker response to reports of littering on narrow country lanes.
Councillor David Simmons, portfolio holder for environment and rural affairs, said “This new trailer is really beneficial, not only to the people who are working to try and clear the litter from these roads, but also to the public, in providing a quicker and more effective response to reports of litter along the roads. This is a proactive response to these requests by Swale Borough Council and Verdant working in partnership to in helping to create a cleaner greener Swale.”
