Swale Forward

Swale Forward, the local regeneration partnership coordinates the delivery of Swale's main regeneration projects.

The partnership brings together the Borough and County Councils, the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and the local private and voluntary sectors. Swale Forward's vision is 'to achieve a transformation in Swale's economic, social and environmental profile so that it is one of the best places in Britain in which to live, work, learn and invest'.

Since its establishment in 2004, Swale Forward has played a central role in support of the development of major schemes at Queenborough and Rushenden and in Sittingbourne town centre, and in securing the funding for major infrastructure to support the Borough's continued development. The partnership has also placed a major emphasis on investment in learning and skills, which it has for some time recognised as Swale's top regeneration priority.

Swale Forward's priorities for the next three years are:

Priority 1

Priority 2

Priority 3

Delivering Swale's major employment and housing priorities

Achieving joined-up regeneration

Championing Swale's agenda

We will...

  • Maintain oversight of the Borough's major integrated regeneration programmes at Queenborough & Rushenden and Sittingbourne town centre, ensuring a joined-up approach between the major partners to development
  • Champion and secure funding for the Borough's main transport infrastructure priorities, in particular M2 Junction 5, Sittingbourne Northern Relief Road and Rushenden Link Road
  • Provide resources through the Swale Forward budget to support project management, technical support and community engagement
  • Engage with emerging proposals for major regeneration at Sheerness

We will...

  • Support the need, and secure funding, for significant new learning facilities at Sittingbourne as part of the regenerated town centre
  • Help deliver improved learning and skills throughout the Borough as a key element of Swale's regeneration strategy, and in accordance with the Swale Learning Strategy
  • Ensure the effective implementation of Swale's major green infrastructure and Parklands projects

We will...

  • Operate as the regeneration and economic development sub-group of the Swale Local Strategic Partnership, reflecting the central role that regeneration plays in delivering Ambitions for Swale
  • Represent Swale's interests at Thames Gateway level, maximising funding for the Borough, and ensuring that we deliver effectively
  • Respond positively to the development of Thames Gateway strategy, ensuring that Swale actively participates in new initiatives
  • Support the development of better joint working across North Kent
  • Co-ordinate and invest in our intelligence base, so that we have a full understanding of the wider economic and regeneration situation to inform our activities
