Overview of the Housing Strategy

Our Housing Strategy is an over-arching document that reviews all housing related issues in Swale. It sets out housing aims and objectives, establishes priorities for action and includes a comprehensive Action Plan.

Other agencies have been involved throughout the development of the strategy and have agreed the Action Plan design to tackle housing priorities in Swale.

Our Objectives 

Looking at the challenges that we particularly need to address over the next five years we have identified four main objectives that together will contribute to achieving our longer- term outcomes and our vision:

1. Increase housing supply, including affordable housing
2. Improve housing condition and local neighbourhoods
3. Support vulnerable people
4. Tackle disadvantage and improve quality of life

We cannot achieve these in isolation; we need a range of partners to work with us in delivering these objectives. We have therefore developed this strategy in consultation with many other agencies and across the Council. Our delivery plan sets out what we will do together to achieve our objectives.

We are conscious that we are working for the people and communities of Swale and we particularly want to ensure that what we do and how we do it contributes to making communities strong and inclusive. We have therefore agreed a set of principles that are central to our work and which will guide us in delivering our objectives:

• Customers and communities are involved and influence the shape of plans and services
• Diversity is taken into account in all areas
• All households can access the services they need.
