Promenade was a weekend of events, talks and performances with a theme of 'heritage, architecture and art' that took place in Sheerness, September 9th - Sunday September 11th 2011.
It was the first year of Promenade, which provided a unique opportunity to explore and celebrate the rich history and heritage of Sheerness as a perennially popular seaside resort and once significant naval port.
It featured talks, events and performance by leading architectural historians, writers, broadcasters and a nationally acclaimed dance company. Whilst promoting a fringe programme of community activities, Promenade commemorated the past and its shaping of place reflecting on its importance in contemporary community life.
The programme included:
- Michael Palin , Dan Cruickshank, Ptolemy Dean, Christopher Woodward and Edwin Heathcote
- Fringe Community Programme which featured Big Fish Arts and local historical groups at Sheerness Library.
- Akademi's Paridiso appeared as part of the Encounter Project within Promenade, for information about the Encounter Project and it's programme of activities across North Kent please go to: Encounter Project Website
Swale Borough Council worked in partnership with local organisations and groups to put on the event by providing a commissioned 'Project Coordinator' who was Allison Young.
The Promenade Working Group would welcome your comment and views if you attended and participated in the weekend of activities. Please send your feedback to the Working Group C/O Martin Goodhew, Swale Borough Council, East Street, Sittingbourne, Kent. ME10 3HT or Email Martin Goodhew
