Controlled Parking Zones
Residential streets in the surrounding areas of town centres, near railway stations etc, often attract commuters, shoppers and other visitors to park for long periods of time. The result of this is that local residents often have problems in parking near their homes if access to a driveway or garage is not available.
Although there is no legal right for homeowners to park on public highway directly outside their house, controlled parking zones are often introduced to assist those living in the area and to make town centres and the surrounding area a more pleasant place to live. These schemes are often implemented in areas of terraced housing where there is little off street parking available.
The purpose of these zones is to provide a set of waiting restrictions over a specified road network. There are several means of controlling and collecting charges from non-residents parking in the zone. The following gives examples:
- Ticket dispensing machines
- Parking discs
- Pre-purchase cards
Residents can apply for a permit to display on their windscreen exempting them from the waiting restrictions in a specified road or area:
- Faversham - Residents (Visitors) and Business Parking Permit - Application Form
- Sittingbourne - Residents (Visitors) and Business Parking Permit - Application Form
If you have recently moved to the Borough and require a permit complete the form below and return it with proof of residency and fee. A permit will be sent to you shortly. Should you wish to change your vehicle it is essential that you notify us, as the permit is specific to a vehicle. You will receive a parking ticket if a vehicle is displaying a permit with differing vehicle details.
