Regenerating Swale
High Street and Beach Bins Clean Up
New recycling bins are being trialled in Sittingbourne and Sheerness. The recycling bins are already being trialled at Beach Street car park, Neptune Terrace, Minster Shingle Bank car park and Minster Leas Little Oyster. As well as there also being trial recycling bins along Sittingbourne High Street.
The bins are blue, exactly the same as the home recycling bins that residents across Swale already use. All the bins are clearly labelled, so that the public will know what can go in each of the bins. The bins will be used for recycling items such as cans and plastic bottles, all the bins in the trial will be safely secured.
The trial comes from a partnership operation between Swale Borough Council and Verdant. Both organisations will monitor the bins continually, and emptying the bins when they are full.
Councillor David Simmons, portfolio holder for environment and rural affairs, said “This trial means that the borough will be able recycle even more of its waste. The residents of Swale are already used to using the blue bins for recycling at home. Using the bins along the High Street or beach will hopefully mean that we can keep Swale clean. I hope that the trial will be a success and that the borough can be cleaner and greener.”
If the trial is successful Swale Borough council will be examining the options for combined litter and recycling bins at key locations across the borough.
