Housing Benefit Investigation Results - The vast majority of people who claim benefits are honest, those who commit benefit fraud are picking the pockets of law-abiding taxpayers. That's why we are targeting benefit thieves! Did you know for the year 2008/9 the council received a large number of referrals about benefit fraud. 435 cases were investigated and over £385 000.00 was identified as overpayment. Our investigations led to twelve cautions, twenty penalties and ten successful prosecutions.
If you suspect a benefit cheat, contact the National Benefit Fraud Hotline 0800 854 440 or you can contact the council directly on 01795 417850. Your call will be in confidence. You can also report a cheat online.
